Carolyn A. Patterson, President/CEO - affectionately known as "Carolyn from Maryland" has always been involved in the performing arts from her early childhood experiences in modeling, piano, and dance. She has technical training in ballet, modern, tap, DC Hand Dance, Chicago Steppin', and Zumba. After relocating to the Atlanta area, Carolyn co-founded Takin’ It Step by Step Dance Company in 2002.

She has been dancing for over 30 years, and has 10+ years of experience as a dance instructor. Carolyn learned under the tutelage of well-known master instructors such as Lewis Neal, Keith Hubbard, Angie Faine, Andre "Dre" Blackwell, Ronneal "Moe" Muhammad, Anthony "Tyk Myn" Allen, and Darrell Roberts.

Carolyn is a University of Maryland graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, is a Certified Group Fitness Instructor through the Aerobics Fitness Association of America (AFAA) and CPR and AED-certified.  Carolyn is an active member of AFAA, the Atlanta Business League and the International Special Events Society (ISES). Carolyn is also recognized as one of the key event promoters in the Southeast while creating innovative concepts ranging from conventions, conferences and competitions to tours, fashion shows and dinner parties.  Her event design skills have lent her the opportunity to serve as a consultant to many clients and other up and coming promoters. 


Lamont Walker

Lamont Walker, native of Pontiac, Michigan, relocated to the Atlanta, Georgia area 10 years ago. He is the chef at Delta Training Headquarters and also provides full-service catering for his own clients.  Lamont is the Detroit Ballroom and Chicago Steppin' instructor for Takin' It Step by Step. He has competed and won numerous dance competitions throughout his dance career, and established his own dance organization, ATL Ballers, 5 years ago after his initial affiliation with and inspiration from Freddie Mac's group, Steppers & Walkers. Lamont offers Detroit-style Ballroom and Chicago-style Steppin' classes, private lessons and special events, and is the host of the annual Players Ball and ATL Ice Breaker dance events.

Shendra Gardner

Shendra Gardner is originally from Chicago, IL and has been an Atlanta transplant for the past 19 years. Shendra felt the need to take her Steppin' skills to the next level, and was inspired to take her first Chicago Steppin' lessons under the direction of Takin' It Step by Step. She formed a bond and friendship with her instructor, Carolyn Patterson, who immediately recognized her leadership skills and enthusiastic desire to learn. After completion of classes and an intense training program, Shendra has become one of Step by Step’s dance instructors for Chicago-style Steppin'.





Kimberly Rodriguez

Kimberly Rodriguez has a Bachelors degree in Community Health with over 15 years experience in the "Helping Career" field of Health & Human Services, Social Services and Education. Kimberly now specializes in Senior Fitness with a particular interest in teaching special populations that may have barriers to health, fitness, and well-being. Kimberly's fitness certifications include: AFAA Primary Group fitness, Zumba licensed to teach Basic, Gold, Toning, Gold Toning and Aqua, Silver Sneakers, Movement Disorder Training Provider, and Ageless Grace.

Kimberly teaches the Move Your Feet In Your Seat Chair Aerobics classes for seniors and the disabled.




Angela "Sugie" McNair

Angela McNair is an author, inspirational speaker and line dance instructor with more than 25 years of experience managing events for targeted audiences. As a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP), she has managed events at the Kennedy Center, The U.S. Department of State and even the White House with the President of the United States in attendance. As an author, Ms. McNair has appeared on radio programs with local stations such as WHUR 96.3 FM, WFBR 1590 AM and HOT 99.5 FM. Additionally, her book, The Son/Sun Always Rises was selected by Heaven 1580 AM’s Celestial Break as the Book of the Month, which included a feature on “Book Bytes” and a radio appearance by Ms. McNair. Ms. McNair has joined the Takin' It Step by Step dance team as the Line Dance Instructor for several senior highrise properties.










Sheila Harper

Sheila Harper is originally from Oakland, California and moved to the Southeast to retire. After moving to Georgia in 2006, she began taking line dance classes at the HJC Bowden Senior Multipurpose Center in East Point. With a background in modern and African dance, Sheila quickly moved from beginner to advanced classes. She is a member of two performing line dance groups, Red October Ageless Wonders and Bowden Soul Strutters. Sheila is also a member of Edeliega, the Bowden Senior Dance Ensemble, which performs liturgical dance, modern, tap, jazz, Mediterranean and hip hop throughout the Atlanta metro area.

She currently teaches a format known as Chachersize™ at the Lou Walker Senior Center in Lithonia, which combines cardio exercise with line dance moves, and has joined the team of Takin’ It Step by Step to offer line dance classes at various properties for seniors.
